The person says LOL now when they mean to laugh out loud. BRB when they'll be right back. FML, fuck my life. It seems to me that language is dead. No punctuation, no capitalization, and utter disregard for spelling and grammar. The yearn for the fast, for the now, not only has consumed the way we eat, but also now the way we communicate, and the way we speak. Rot of body, rot of mind.
The age of information, they say. And yet, half the information out there is false, a quarter of it is made up, two-thirds is useless, and the rest is lost in the abyss. The murk of what we think we know actually conceals the truths we once knew to be self evident. Is it the fault of our technology or our laziness? Maybe it's a little bit of both. Man's greatest invention was printing press; man's worst? The 160 character limit.
We are society progressively growing dumber. Let's agree that. The more advanced our technology becomes, the dumber we grow. And the saddest part of all is the illusion. The illusion of a life, and of friends. Facebook, Twitter, whatever. Our true friend is the computer that dumbs us down until we are but robots, devoid of true human interaction. Because, in essence, that is what this is: loss of communication. Loss of language, loss of life, loss of intellect.
The age of information, they say. LMFAO.
